EH&S Survey

Question

I believe that the survey has an incorrect answer in the system for General Shop Safety. The question is in regards to the Compressed Gas Cylinders? Shouldn’t gas cylinders be secured all the time?

Answer

Yes, gas cylinders should always be secured in some manner to prevent accidental falling, tipping and rolling.  This applies during and after use.  However, there is an exception when it comes to some construction work where a cylinder cart or rack cannot be used.  In this case, the cylinder can be carried in, THEN properly secured in an adequate manner.  For short distances, cylinders may be moved by tilting and rolling them on their bottom edge.  PLEASE REVIEW EH&S Safety Note #68 for additional information.
