Work Place Training

Question

How long do we need to keep a copy of training records?

Answer

We recommend keeping training records forever - or as long as the person is employed or volunteering for us. You could archive records every few years, but if there is ever a serious injury or claim, we will be asked to prove that the person was trained.

We also suggest you to keep separate training records for volunteers and employees. If you should ever have an OSHA inspection at your office, related to an employee injury or complaint, you would need to provide the employee training records, but the volunteer records should not be part of that process. Volunteer training records are kept to document the training for liability purposes.
